Santa goes waterskiing
To celebrate its first holiday season since opening in April, National Harbor in Oxon Hill hosted the 23rd annual Waterskiing Santa show Dec. 24 that featured Santa, nine kneeboarding reindeer, flying elves, a jet skiing Grinch and Frosty the Snowman in a dinghy. National Harbor hosted the show in its marina on the Potomac River.
New to this year's annual Christmas Eve performances was a wakeboarding elf. The show was held previously at the Columbia Island Marina at the Lyndon B. Johnson Memorial Grove in Virginia near the Pentagon.
The Waterskiing Santa show may return to the Columbia Island or National Harbor marinas or to another location in December 2009, according to a woman at the show's main office who identified herself only as Mrs. Claus.
"When Santa comes into town, this is a little recreation for him before his big night of delivering toys," she said. "It's how he gets warmed up, how he gets his reindeer warmed up."
