Cunningham, Bouey earn preseason honors
Blake infielder-pitcher Tommy Cunningham and Sherwood pitcher Will Bouey, a pair of All-Gazette first-team performers last spring, were recently named to the Maryland Baseball Coaches Association's Pre-Season All-State team. They were two of 30 players chosen from among 135 nominees.
Cunningham, a senior, batted .431 last year his second consecutive year batting over .400 and led the team with 16 runs scored and 18 batted in. He also committed only two errors at third base. As a pitcher, Cunningham compiled a 3.25 earned-run average and struck out 54. The two-time All-Gazette first teamer is approaching school-record marks for wins, innings and strikeouts. He has verbally committed to Indiana University.
Bouey, a junior, was one of the county's most dominant pitchers a year ago, compiling a 6-2 record with a 1.89 ERA and 60 strikeouts. As a late-season varsity call-up in his freshman year, he helped pitch the Warriors to the 2008 state championship.
