Pedestrian killed on Beltway in Beltsville
Police still trying to identify victim
Maryland State Police received a call just before 11 p.m. about a man walking along the left shoulder of the Capital Beltway, said police spokesman Cpl. Todd Mason.
By the time officers arrived, the man had been struck "numerous times" in the center lane, Mason said.
"The pedestrian was on the roadway, killed on the inner loop between Kenilworth Avenue and U.S. 1," Mason said. "We're trying to find out who he is."
Mason said the victim had no identification on him and there were no abandoned vehicles found near the scene of the accident.
"We'll try to identify him through fingerprinting or a news release," Mason said. "We'll send out a news release to see if anyone is missing a loved one."
Aaliyah Datt of Bowie was one of the drivers to strike the man, Mason said, and was the only one to stop.
Datt remained on the scene throughout the whole investigation. Mason said no charges are expected to be filed against Datt, however, police will try to locate the drivers of the vehicles which fled the scene.
Mason said they plan to press charges against the other drivers.
"[Datt] didn't have any information," Mason said. "It was dark and she couldn't possibly see the make or color of the other cars."
Mason said police had not determined exactly how many vehicles struck the man.
