Police arrest three in connection with homicide
Investigators say Mount Rainier weekend killing domestic-related
Police arrested three Prince George's County residents in connection with a weekend Mount Rainier homicide that investigators characterized as domestic-related.
Officers responded to a report of a shooting at about 10:18 p.m., Dec. 4 in the 2500 block of Queens Chapel Road. They found Jose Alfredo Benitez, 42, inside of his home with a gunshot wound to his upper body.
He was pronounced dead on the scene, according to county police.
The arrested suspects are: Bonifacio Martinez, 42, of the 8600 block of 22nd Place in Adelphi; Carlos Romero, 25, of the 3200 block of Allison Street in the Landover Hills area and Yonis Hernandez Argueta, 17, of the 5900 block of Rosedale Drive in Chillum.
Police arrested the three Saturday at Romero's home, county police spokesman Henry Tippett said.
Although Benitez died from a gunshot wound to his upper body, all three suspects allegedly "had conspired to basically have this guy murdered," Tippett said.
Argueta will be charged as an adult, which is not uncommon for the severity of the crime, Tippett said. Investigators said the homicide is related to a domestic dispute, Tippett said.
The three are being held without bond at the Department of Corrections in Upper Marlboro. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Dec. 30.
