[Recently], Rockville inaugurated its new mayor, Phyllis Marcuccio, and four council members. This is a time to rejoice in our Democratic process, which allows Rockville's citizens to be heard, especially when selecting a new leader and a new direction. Marcuccio will provide that new direction, while listening to all sides and carefully weighing citizen rights alongside other competing interests.

Marcuccio's passion for openness, transparency and inclusion will serve Rockville well and help to return our city to one that values citizen input as well as stakeholder notification. She will set the example for civility and provide the kind of caring leadership that many Rockville citizens have yearned for.

It's unfortunate to see disparaging comments in local blogs about our mayor-elect and other newly elected council members by citizens that may have supported other candidates. The time for second guessing and Monday morning quarterbacking has ended. Phyllis Marcuccio is our mayor now. She ran a positive, well-organized and energetic campaign. In keeping with her dedication to our city, Marcuccio received more than 94 percent of her contributions from ordinary citizens residing within Rockville's city limits. She accepted no funding from Rockville developers.

Moving forward, let's all support Marcuccio and work together to make Rockville its best.
