Prince George’s County Councilwoman Camille Exum (D-Dist. 7) of Seat Pleasant and Councilman David Harrington (D-Dist. 5) of Cheverly were named chair and vice chair of the County Council today.

The votes came during the first formal meeting since all members were sworn in yesterday.

‘‘This chairmanship will receive my highest priority in the upcoming session,” Exum said as she accepted the gavel from outgoing Chairman Thomas Dernoga (D-Dist. 1) of Laurel.

‘‘As has become our tradition, this Council will continue to strive to speak truth to power and act in a collective voice.”

Exum served as vice chair under Dernoga.

Incoming Councilman Eric Olson (D-Dist. 3) of College Park and Councilwoman Ingrid Turner (D-Dist. 4) of Bowie also took their official seats today.

The next scheduled meeting is Jan. 16.
