Calling Montgomery County the place in which all residents have a vested interest, Isiah ‘‘Ike” Leggett formally took the helm as chief executive of the state's largest jurisdiction today during inauguration ceremonies for the County Executive and the County Council.

Leggett (D), along with the nine council members, were sworn in at The Music Center at Strathmore in North Bethesda before a packed audience of local and state politicians, community leaders and county employees.

‘‘For us to do well by those we serve, we must believe and visibly demonstrate that Montgomery County’s best days are still ahead of us. We will look at the challenges as opportunities that abound, and we are going to seize them,” Leggett said.

Outgoing executive, Douglas M. Duncan, who attended the ceremony, received numerous standing ovations from the audience, after being recognized by Leggett and Councilman George L. Leventhal (D-At large) of Takoma Park. Duncan will host his final Executive Ball after 12 years in office.
