Man shot, killed in Fort Washington housing complex
Witnesses reported District resident had been involved in argument
Prince George's County police continue to investigate the death of a Washington, D.C., man who was gunned down in Fort Washington on Sunday afternoon.
The shooting occurred shortly after 5:30 p.m. along the 5200 block of Haras Place. Police responding to reports of gunshots in the area found Deandre Smith, 22, of the 3600 block of Jay Street Northeast suffering from a gunshot wound to his body. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Officer Larry Johnson, a spokesman for the Prince George's County Fire/EMS Department, said witnesses reported that Smith was arguing with someone before gunfire was heard. The area where he was shot is a housing development of townhomes and apartments that straddles Interstate 95/495.
"It may have started over an argument," Johnson said. "We got a call for a shooting, and when we arrived we found him outside."
Johnson said the investigation is continuing and police are not sure what Smith was doing in the area or who he was arguing with.
