Latest murder breaks 14-year record

A murder Monday evening in Riverdale Heights marks the 155th in the county this year, which breaks the record set in 1991.

At about 7:45 p.m. Prince George’s County Police officers responded to the 6300 block of 64th Avenue for the report of a shooting. When the officers arrived, they found the victim, 23-year-old Stephon Haynes of the 7900 block of New Riggs Road, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

He was taken to Prince George’s Hospital Center where he was later pronounced dead. There are no detailed descriptions of the suspects.

The Police Department is asking anyone with information about this case to call the Homicide Unit at 301-772-4925. Callers wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS; a cash reward is available for tips that lead to the arrest and indictment.

Police Chief Melvin High has created an additional reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest and indictment of violent crimes in Prince George’s County.
