Ready to meet future challenges
The election has been concluded. The new City Council will be sworn in and a new council term will begin. I would like to thank all the folks that supported me in the election campaign and personally extend my sincere appreciation for the faith and trust you have given me in re-electing me to the office of mayor of the greatest city in Maryland. I truly appreciate your faith and trust. Thank you.
The upcoming term will have its challenges, most of which will be directly related to the national and state economy. The city experienced significant shared-tax revenues last year, but we overcame the difficulties and we moved forward. All indications suggest another round of revenue reductions from federal and state taxes will occur again this year, and the related challenges may be significant, but I am confident we will successfully meet those challenges again.
We will be meeting with our state and federal colleagues as the budget process goes forward, and I am confident the City Council will continue to exhibit a strong and effective commitment to the maintenance of our core city services and the maintenance of our hometown in a fashion that continues our reputation as one of the most desirable places to live in the region. As always, your advice and guidance during this process is noted and appreciated.
Thank you again for your vote. I truly appreciate both your trust and my obligation to live up to that faith.
As always, Bowie has been a great place to call home, and we will do everything possible during the upcoming term to keep everyone proud of the boast, "Bowie is my hometown." Thank you.
G. Frederick Robinson, Bowie mayor
