Man dies after being hit by car while crossing street
Police are investigating Silver Spring death
A 63-year-old Silver Spring man died after being hit by a car while walking across 16th Street in Silver Spring near his home Wednesday night, Montgomery County police said.
Police are investigating the collision, which occurred around 6 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of 16th Street and Colesville Road in Silver Spring, near the Washington, D.C., border.
William Alexander Guy, 63, of the 8300 block of 16th Street, was crossing 16th Street and walking in the northbound lanes when he was struck by a black 2002 Mercedes Benz C320 driven by Andrew Pace, 47, of the 13500 block of Travilah Road in Gaithersburg, according to a news release from county police. Police are not sure if Guy was crossing at a crosswalk at the time of the collision.
Pace, who was not injured, remained at the scene until police arrived and has not been criminally charged, said Officer Melanie Brenner, a police spokeswoman.
Guy was transported to Washington Hospital Center, where he died of his injuries, the release said.
Both the northbound and southbound lanes of 16th Street were closed shortly after 6 p.m. Wednesday night, as was the southbound lane of Colesville, Brenner said.
Detectives are asking anyone who witnessed the collision and have not spoken with detectives to contact them at 301-840-2435 as the investigation continues.
