Special meeting of civic association tonight
If you live in Area 2 of West Laurel, don't miss tonight's special meeting of the West Laurel Civic Association, which will specifically address the concerns of Area 2 residents. Representatives from Prince George's County Councilman Tom Dernoga's office, the county police and the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission will be in attendance. The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. at the West Laurel Community Building, 16501 Supplee Lane.
Another chance for Coffee with Cops
The first Coffee with Cops was a great success, and another has been organized for 1 p.m. today. This time the event will be held at the Phelps Senior Services Center, 701 Montgomery St., with much more room for everyone. All Prince George's County seniors are welcome to attend.
Giving thanks, help others
Councilman Tom Dernoga is holding a special Thanksgiving event to offer thanks and recognition to all the organizations and individuals whose efforts have made Prince George's County a better place to live. Everyone is invited to attend this free event from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the West Lanham Hills Volunteer Fire Department, 8501 Good Luck Road, Lanham. A contribution of nonperishable food items and/or clothing will be appreciated and passed along to the evening's special honorees: Laurel Advocacy and Referral Services, Mission of Love and the Coalition of Concerned Black Christian Men. Refreshments, entertainment and child-friendly activities will be available. Please RSVP to Ola Ojewumi at 301-395-8548 or TDernogaRSVP@aol.com.

Time to clean house
Mark your calendar now for "Get Rid of Your Junk Day," sponsored by the West Laurel Civic Association and the Prince George's County Waste Management Division. Bring your junk (no hazardous waste or electronics, please) to the West Laurel Community Building, where there will be two three-ton Dumpsters. The Dumpsters will open at 9 a.m. and close at 12:30 p.m. or when full, whichever comes first. Small carpets, rugs or small furniture are acceptable. Please do not bring sofas, entertainment centers, whole-house carpeting, etc.
Our own Officer James Beasock will be on hand as well to install tamperproof bolts on your car license plates from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. In many areas of District 6, tags are stolen at an alarming rate, so these bolts are a great deterrent, particularly if you park on the street or in a carport. Bolts can be removed at any car dealership.
