John E. Crawford Sr.
John Edward Crawford Sr., 90, of Frederick, died Nov. 12, 2009, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Betty Jane Reynolds Crawford, who died in 1955.
Born Oct. 3, 1919, in Frederick, he was the son of the late Walter Augustus and Mary Catherine Cole Crawford.
Mr. Crawford was a lifelong resident of Frederick. He served in the U.S. Army, holding the rank of Master Sergeant and was responsible for prisoner transporting, as well as war bride transportation during World War II. He was a member of the Maryland State Guard Bridge and Dam Division for protection during World War II. He worked for many years for Herbert S. Hann Electric and RF Kline Electric until his retirement in1985 as foreman of the electrical division. He loved his family, gardening, his computer and playing electronic games. Above all he especially loved spending time with his daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mr. Crawford is survived by daughter Trudy E. Crawford Hill of Frederick; son John E. Crawford Jr.; grandsons Edward J. Jr. and Michael J. Hill; granddaughter Joy F. Page and husband Scott of Dickerson; great-grandchildren Michael, Anthony, Sean, Chelsey, Trudy, Kandice, Christian, Kalib, Gabe and Jerimia; brother James F. Crawford and wife Theresa of Lindale, Texas; cousins Vernon and Maisie Miller of Beltsville, and a host of loving nieces and nephews. He is additionally survived by his special friends Onyx "Bear" Barker and wife Doris of Lime Kiln and James Vallandingham of Knoxville.
Family and friends gathered Monday at Keeney and Basford P.A. Funeral Home, Frederick. Funeral services were held Tuesday. Interment was in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
Pall bearers were Michael J. Hill, Edward J. Hill, Jim Vallendingham, Scott Page, Karl Woodcock and Onyx Barker.
