First-ever Maryland Women's Conference in Frederick on Friday
Women faced with divorce, death or job loss can find help in securing a solid financial future at the first-ever Maryland Women's Conference in Frederick on Friday.
Financial experts will be on hand to provide women with information on retirement, legal issues, investing and estate planning.
"This is critically important," said Darby Jones, conference chairwoman. "It's going to deliver fundamental, realistic and useful information regarding finances, planning for retirement and legal resources."
The conference will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Frederick Community College Conference Center, 7932 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick.
"The topics include growing old without going broke, social networking and a business plan for life," said Diane N. DeMarco, a member of the conference committee.
Titled "My Life, My Future," the conference is intended to help women secure a solid financial future in the event of a life-changing situation, DeMarco said.
The keynote speaker is Cordia Harrington, CEO and president of the Tennessee Bun Company. Harrington will speak on the challenges women face in their careers and private lives.
The conference is sponsored by My Bank First United, Sylvana Institute for Medical Aesthetics and Shockley Honda.
The cost is $25 and includes lunch, door prizes and a gift bag.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Frederick County Commission for Women's Woman to Woman Mentoring Program.
The Commission for Women develops and implements programs designed to educate the women of Frederick County on issues that range from childcare and health to domestic violence.
"The Woman to Woman Mentoring Program gets older women to share their knowledge and experience with younger women," said DeMarco, a former commission member. "It's kind of the circle of life."
