Veteran subdued after two-hour police standoff
Temple Hills woman allegedly resisted eviction with pellet gun and knife
A Temple Hills woman was sent to the Southern Maryland Hospital Center in Clinton for psychiatric evaluation after a two-hour standoff Monday with Prince George's County Sheriff's Office deputies occurred after she resisted a court-ordered eviction notice.
The incident happened at the Lynn Hill Condominiums in the 3100 block of Good Hope Avenue, when two deputies were serving a routine breach of lease notice to the tenant. The woman, who the sheriff's office said is as an Air Force veteran in her 40s, refused to open the door after several attempts.
During a two-hour period, 10 additional deputies responded to the scene and forced their way into the apartment, where the woman allegedly had a pellet gun and a knife in her hands. According to police, she became agitated and began cutting her furniture and television with the knife while police continued negotiations for her to surrender.
Yakeisha Hines, a sheriff's office spokeswoman, said the police used a Taser to subdue the woman, and then carried her out of the unit and transported her to the Clinton hospital for emergency physiological evaluation.
"Once she was subdued, she was cooperative," Hines said.
Hines said the woman has received notices for eviction dating to September. When police arrived, the windows to the condo were covered with aluminum foil, the electricity to the condo had been shut off, and the woman had built a small barricade behind the front door of the unit, Hines added.
The woman lived in the condo alone, Hines said, and police are trying to contact her next of kin. No charges have been filled as of yet, she added.
