Strikers soccer team finishes unbeaten in NCSL slate
The Bowie Soccer United Strikers U-17 boys' soccer team finished its fall season with a 5-0-4 record in the National Capital Soccer League. More than half of the team is comprised of 16-year-old players, and the team played up one age group.
The Strikers were led by captains Carson Mba-Azaintu and Imari Anderson. The team also includes Melvin Benyella, Kwame Brown, Mohamed Kaba, Jordan Horelein, Dominique Brown, John-Paul Che, Alambi Clarke, Kwame Kellyman, Damien Malcolm, Kojo Karikari, Steven Quarles, Jeremiah Willis and Awa Dulleh. Kaba was the team's leading scorer with 13 goals in the nine-game NCSL season.
The end of the NCSL schedule caps a season that began in July when the Strikers won the Mid-Atlantic Cup in Manheim, Pa. The team will play in two postseason tournaments: the Baltimore College Showcase, Nov. 27-29, and the Old Dominion Cup, Dec. 5-7, in Virginia Beach and Norfolk.
Bowie team loses season finale
The A.C. Bowie U-8 soccer team lost the final game of its regular season, 2-1, to Crofton. Bryce McKenzie scored Bowie's goal on an assist from Matthew Surette. Luke Hanno, Nathan Davidson, Justin Zavala and Noel Brittain contributed on offense. Allison Farina, Gabe Magnardi and Jared Byrd led the defense in front of goalkeepers Michael Farina and Vincent Lewis. A.C. Bowie will play in the season-ending Mountain Tournament this weekend in Glen Burnie.
