Exclusion from All-Gazette team?
Once again, The Gazette slights outstanding athletes in the county's private schools by excluding them in the selection to the All-Gazette golf team. Aside from the fact that no sports editor would put his or her name on the selections or how they arrived at their choices, the choices themselves failed to recognize the feats recorded by the golfers at Bullis, Georgetown Prep, Good Counsel, and Landon during their respective seasons. The Gazette recognizes the private schools in the football, basketball, soccer, wrestling, swimming and tennis teams. Why not in golf?
And please note that there has been a golf tournament open to both public and private school golfers for over 75 years, one of the oldest such tournaments in the country the Frank Emmet Schoolboy held annually in June, which was dominated this past year by private school golfers and won by Denny McCarthy of Georgetown Prep.
