Fond memories of Phillips Farm
Thank you for the story on Phillips Farm in Germantown ("Phillips Farm to close on Halloween," Oct. 28). Phillips Farm has been an important part of our community for so many years. Phillips Farm has hosted many community activities, including an annual jousting tournament and the Germantown Oktoberfest. As the residential development grew up around the farm, the new residents made Phillips Farm part of their family traditions. I have fond memories of jumping on the tractor with my daughter and her friends to go and pick our pumpkins each year.
But Jean Phillips' contribution to the community is much more than the farm. She has been actively engaged in the development of the community through various civic organizations. She also allowed Blackrock Center for the Arts to use a portion of their land to develop several of the earth cast monoliths that now stand in Blackrock's lobby. So, although we are sad to see Phillips Farm close, the community has many happy memories, along with a very tangible reminder to Germantown's history as a farming community. Thank you, Jean.
