Charges pending against driver
The driver of the car in which Kaitlyn "Kaity" Wilson was riding on Nov. 5 remained at the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore as of Tuesday afternoon, according to Maryland State Police.
On Friday she listed in serious but stable condition, but State Police did not have a status update on Wednesday.
Police said the young woman attended Middletown High School with Wilson, but would not release her name because she is a juvenile and charges against her related to the crash are pending.
Charges might not be filed for several months, police said.
Wilson, 17, of Jefferson died early on Nov. 6 as a result of injuries she sustained in the crash the previous afternoon.
Police said Wilson was riding in a Honda Civic at about 3:30 p.m., traveling south on Holter Road in Jefferson. The driver of the car did not stop at a red light at Jefferson Pike (Md. Route 180), and the car collided with a State Highway Administration dump truck that was traveling east on Jefferson Pike.
When the vehicles came to a stop in the eastbound lane of Jefferson Pike, the dump truck was on top of the front passenger side of the Civic, State Police said.
After the collision, both occupants of the dump truck were taken by ambulance to Frederick Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and have since been released.
According to state police, speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash.
