Woman's sentence touches on abortion argument
A story on the front page of the Oct. 15 Gazette told of how a woman had just been sentenced to 13 years in prison for the death of her baby after she abandoned her hours-old daughter in a field ["Woman who abandoned infant sentenced to 13 years"]. The woman's defense attorney said the pregnancy had been the product of a rape that occurred prior to her coming to the United States. However, the prosecution handily won the case, with the Prince George's County prosecutor saying that whether the baby was the product of a rape doesn't change the value of the baby's life.
True indeed, but we have to question why this truth gets tossed out the window by abortion-rights advocates. Although only about 1 percent of abortions occur in cases of rape or incest, unwanted pregnancies resulting from these acts of violence is a favorite defense given by those defending abortion. The reality is that this woman could have gone to a late-term abortion clinic the day before and had her baby's life terminated (citing a "health" concern), and it would have been perfectly legal. A day later: She gets 13 years in prison.
Come on folks, let's cut through the "pro-choice" smooth talking that the media, politicians, etc., are constantly trying to sell us. It's a child, not a choice. Both abortion and infanticide stop an innocent beating heart, and break another heart.
