Amy Manetta Posey Purnell
Amy Manetta Posey Purnell, 57, of Port Tobacco died Friday at her home.
Born Feb. 24, 1953, in Bessemer, Ala., she was the fourth child of James and Christabelle Blocker Posey.
She was baptized at the First Baptist Church Old Jonesboro and loved to work in the church and served in the youth usher ministry, youth choir, Sunday school and BTU. She was also a member of Girl Scout Troop 249. Once in Maryland, she became a member of Asbury United Methodist Church.
She began her career with the Federal Bureau of Investigation on March 19, 1972, and was a dedicated employee until her retirement April 30.
She was united in holy matrimony to the love of her life, Sylvester, on Oct. 12, 1972. She was a loving and faithful wife until death, and the union was blessed with two loving daughters.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Christabelle Posey; sisters Idella P. Franklin and Janice P. Spain; grandson Keith E. DeRamus Jr.; and favorite niece Tara S. Anderson.
She will be fondly remembered by her devoted husband, Sylvester Purnell III.
Her legacy will be sustained by her loving daughters, Bridget P. DeRamus and husband Keith and Angela M. Purnell; grandchildren Kyle E. DeRamus and Michaela M. Purnell; brother James D. Posey and wife Rita; sisters Barbara P. Ware and Mildred L. Posey; uncle Eugene Blocker; aunts Bernice Kidd, Betty Williams, Pearline Reaties and Mildred Collier, Inez New and husband James, Alethea Foster and husband Duey, Phyllis Cochran, and Cynthia Smith and husband Bennie; parents-in law Thomas and Dolores Silliday; sisters-in-law Olivia Trantham and Katrina Brown and husband Calvin; one great-uncle; one great-aunt; goddaughter Ashley Grant; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Ms. Purnell was most appreciative of the special care provided by Traci "Nippy" Sellman. Included in her circle were special friends who were forever faithful.
Her viewing will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. today with prayer service at 8:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head; and on Friday from 10 a.m. until the service at 11 a.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, 4004 Accokeek Road, Brandywine.
Her interment will be in the church cemetery.
