Rockville Library to be renamed in honor of veterans
County Executive Isiah Leggett, a veteran of the Vietnam War, will rename the Rockville Library in honor of those who served in the armed forces.
He made the announcement in a Veterans Day statement issued late Tuesday afternoon.
"As a tribute to all those who have fallen in service to our country and at the recommendation of our County Veterans Commission I will rename the Rockville Library as the Rockville Memorial Library,'" he says in the statement.
The statement says the library will house a collection of veteran-related materials.
County Councilman George L. Leventhal (D-At large) of Takoma Park proposed in January 2008 renaming the library after former county executive Douglas M. Duncan.
But Leggett (D) stated there was no compelling reason to waive the five-year waiting period called for by county policy after an official leaves office in order to name the library after Duncan.
