A federal judge today turned down requests to halt construction of the Intercounty Connector highway, slated to begin this month.

The 18.8-mile, $2.4 billion Laurel-to-Gaithersburg road has been in contention for five decades.

U.S. District Court Judge Alexander Williams Jr. rejected separate requests by the Audubon Naturalist Society (including Montgomery County residents Roger Metcalf and Eve Burton) and Environmental Defense and the Sierra Club to stop the road from moving forward.

The judge’s decision may be found at www.gazette.net⁄links.
