Pallotti football team rallies in season finale
Panthers score 29 unanswered points in third quarter to beat Friends on Friday
The St. Vincent Pallotti High School football team erupted for 29 points in the third quarter and finished its 2009 season with a 36-20 victory against Baltimore's Friends School on Friday night at Fairland Regional Park in Laurel.
A week after a loss to Annapolis Area Christian ended the Panthers' chance to share the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association C Conference title, Pallotti found itself trailing Friends, 20-7, at halftime.
Sophomore Matt Defrank opened the third-quarter rally for Pallotti with a 5-yard touchdown run. Then senior Keith Charles scored three consecutive touchdowns, the first coming on a 50-yard interception return. Charles later added scoring runs of 4 and 54 yards. Defrank carried 10 times for 174 yards, and Charles added eight carries for 97 yards. Allen Bright carried six times for 37 yards and scored Pallotti's only first-half touchdown.
The Panthers lost four of their first five games this season, but finished 5-5 overall and 4-2 in the MIAA C Conference.
