Homeowner assistance topic of forumAnimal Control Board meets TuesdayThe city of Gaithersburg and the county’s Housing Opportunities Commission are holding a homeowner assistance workshop Saturday for city residents displaced by recent redevelopment in Olde Towne and the Deer Park area. The free workshop runs 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Activity Center at Bohrer Park, 506 S. Frederick Ave., Gaithersburg. Former residents of West Deer Park Apartments and current residents of Broadstone Apartments on West Deer Park Road, Ty-Gwynn Apartments, Diamond Court Apartments and Deer Park Apartments on East Diamond Avenue are invited. These apartment complexes are scheduled for demolition and the approved assistance program provides eligible residents zero-percent loans of up to $20,000 to use for down payments and closing costs when buying a home. Input sought on animal control policies The Gaithersburg City Animal Control Board will hold a work session at 8 p.m. Tuesday in City Hall Council Chambers. ‘‘We’re interested in what the public’s ideas are for new legislation around animals and fowl,” said Lisa Holland, Director of Animal Control. ‘‘And also legislation for the dog exercise area [on Bickerstaff Way] and animal control laws for the city.” Also on the agenda is consideration of whether to adopt the county’s animal trespass law and whether unaltered dogs should be allowed in the dog exercise area. ‘‘I’m interested to see what the public has to say, what they want,” Holland said.
