Berwyn Heights headed to playoffs
The Berwyn Heights Boys and Girls Club U-12 soccer team rallied for a 3-2 win against Marlboro and then rolled to a 7-0 win against Greenbelt to clinch a spot in the county playoffs. Against Greenbelt, Chris Hernandez, Jeremy Brosh and Josue Hernandez each had two goals, and Rumar William added one.
U-14 team stays unbeaten
The Berwyn Heights Boys and Girls Club U-14 soccer team wrapped up its first undefeated regular season with a 3-1 victory against Fort Washington on Saturday. The passing of midfielders Colby Francoeur, Ian Harper, Clay Nadasen-Reynolds and Tito Romero sparked the Berywn Heights offense, which had goals from Kevin Aponte, Junior Hernandez and Oscar Rodriguez. Defenders Angel Maza and Ginelle Saint-Felix each had key takeaways down the stretch as Berwyn Heights survived a late surge by Fort Washington. The team advances to the county playoffs this weekend.
U-11 team wins
Led by goalies Jack Brittan-Powell and Jorge Cruz, the Berwyn Heights Boys and Girls Club Wolfpack U-11 soccer team shut out the Oxon Hill U-12 girls' team, 2-0, in their final game before this weekend's playoffs. Cruz scored the game's first goal on an assist from midfielder David Guzman. Kyle Wint added a second score to seal the victory with 5 minutes remaining. Defenders Mario Molina, Tide Bello, Deysey Maza, Jake Trangsrud and Ismael Boussa helped preserve the victory. Midfielders Guzman, Jesus Molina, Jan Knutson, Nora Snyder and Jeremy Nadasen-Reynolds helped keep pressure on the Oxon Hill defense.
Tryouts/tournaments planned
The Maryland Ruff Riders is hosting the annual Pre-Turkey Jam Basketball Tournament on Nov. 21-22 for boys' and girls' teams in the U-10 through
