Revenue board caters to wealthy
Phillip Feliciano's continued presence on the Montgomery County Revenue Authority is a disgrace to the county. His assertion that the authority's receipt of $150,000 from the county to operate Sligo Creek Golf Course ignores the fact that the authority already receives funds from the county under several lease-back agreements, including two swimming centers and a parking garage. It ignores the fact that the authority's own lawyer worked out the language of the operating agreement with Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission.
If Feliciano's opinion is somehow correct then it also would be illegal for the authority to operate any county-owned courses, including the two most profitable courses in the county, Needwood and Northwest.
At a meeting I attended in September, Feliciano suggested that the county should sell the Margaret Schweinhaut Senior Center on Forest Glen Road and use the money and part of the property to build a driving range and a putt-putt course.
The Revenue Authority board cares only about catering to the county's wealthiest golfers and owners of private aircraft. If we cannot get better members, then the board should be abolished and replaced by an entity more representative of the county.
