Man in skeleton mask robs bank in Chevy Chase
nSuspect left the scene with a getaway driver
A sinister Halloween costume was put to evil uses during a bank robbery in Chevy Chase Monday morning, according to police.
A man wearing a grinning skeleton mask and dark clothing walked into a SunTrust Bank in the 8500 block of Connecticut Avenue at approximately 11:10 a.m. on Monday, brandished a semi-automatic handgun, and demanded cash, according to a statement released by Montgomery County Police. He received an undisclosed amount of money before getting into a black Mercedes and, with the help of a getaway driver, leaving the scene. No one was injured during the incident.
The suspect who entered the bank was described as tall, but no other distinguishing features were known, according to police spokeswoman Lucille Baur. The getaway driver was described as a heavy-set black male, and was apparently not wearing a costume.
"If this had happened in April, it would have been more unusual to have a Halloween mask," Baur said.
She said police did not know which way the Mercedes traveled after leaving the bank.
Baur said the police have a policy of not disclosing how much money was stolen in such circumstances.
Anyone with information regarding the robbery is asked to call police's Robbery Section at 240-777-5100. Callers can remain anonymous.
