Radio One, the Lanham media company, reported a $14.2 million third-quarter profit, compared with a $266.1 million net loss for the same period last year. Quarterly revenues, however, fell to $75.5 million from $86.2 million in 2008.

"The efforts we have made to cut costs and streamline the business have positively impacted the income statement, and I believe position us well for the future. I was pleased that our radio division outperformed their markets once again, this time by 390 basis points," CEO Alfred C. Liggins III said in a statement.

Storage facility to open

in Temple Hills

Beech Road Self Storage has obtained a $6.4 million loan to build a 1,000-unit climate-controlled facility in Temple Hills.

The 110,487-square-foot two-story metal building is to be at 5335 Beech Road, according to the Web site of builder Harbor View Contractors of Baltimore.

Oxon Hill firm wins $1M

State Department deal

Ian, Evan & Alexander Corp., a program management company in Oxon Hill, has received a $1 million, five-year contract from the Department of State.

The company is to provide seven full-time contract specialists and administrative support personnel for the department.

Oxon Hill man gets 42 months in mortgage scheme

Terrence White, 35, of Oxon Hill was sentenced to 42 months in prison for mail fraud in connection with a scheme involving the purchase of 25 properties in Maryland, Washington and Virginia using false mortgage and settlement documents, according to federal prosecutors. White also owes $4.2 million in restitution.

This scam involved fraudulent loans worth more than $19 million, harming more than 10 individuals and banks. From $2.5 million to $7 million of this total can be linked to White's actions, authorities said. Three others have been sentenced in connection with the scheme, with two more awaiting sentencing.
