Man, 25, shot leaving gym in downtown Silver Spring on Monday
Man sustains non-life threatening injuries; Police searching for suspects
A man was shot in the leg Monday night during rush hour at a busy downtown Silver Spring intersection after fending off two robbers while he was leaving the gym, police say. The two suspects are still at-large.
At about 5:55 p.m. Monday, officers responded to the entrance area to Gold's Gym in City Place Mall at 8661 Colesville Road in downtown Silver Spring, according to a news release from Montgomery County Police.
A 25-year-old man was leaving Gold's Gym and walking along the sidewalk when two men approached him and tried to rob him, the release said. The victim was able to fight off the suspects, who were unable to take any property. One of the suspects then shot the victim, and the bullet entered his left leg above the knee, exited his leg and then entered his right leg.
The gym is feet from the intersection of Fenton Street and Colesville Road, an intersection with a four-way stop light, six lanes of traffic going north to south and four lanes of traffic going east to west.
Montgomery County Police spokeswoman Blanca Kling did not know Tuesday morning whether detectives had interviewed witnesses of the shooting.
The victim was transported to the hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The first suspect is described as a black male, 6 feet tall, 130 pounds, bald with a beard and side burns. The second suspect is described as a clean-shaven black male with a teardrop tattoo on his face who was wearing a hat and a gray hooded sweatshirt.
Anyone with information about this incident or the suspects is asked to call the Montgomery County Police Third District Investigative Section at 301-565-5835. Callers may remain anonymous.
