Thurmont police create bicycle database

The Thurmont Police Department in September launched a database program to track bicycles in order to combat theft, according to a press release from the department.

Thurmont residents may register their bicycles on the database and receive a sticker from the department in the mail.

Registration is optional. Forms may be picked up at town hall or online at thurmont.com.

Emmitsburg commissioners get Capitol tour

Emmitsburg Commissioners Glenn E. Blanchard, Joyce A. Rosensteel and Denise E. Etris attended a Capitol Hill briefing on Maryland municipalities given by U.S. Sen. Benjamin L. Cardin, (D) of Pikesville and U.S. Sen. Barbara A. Mikulski (D) of Baltimore.

The commissioners were given a tour of the building and were allowed to observe a Senate session following the briefing, according to Etris.

Thurmont church to ring in 250th birthday

Graceham Moravian Church is beginning a year of celebration for its 250th anniversary with a Thanksgiving country music concert on Nov. 18, according to a press release from the church.

George Hamilton IV, who recorded the song ‘‘Abilene” in 1963, will perform a set titled ‘‘Thanksgiving in the Country” at 3 p.m. at the church.

The church is located on Rocky Ridge Road.

The concert is open to the public. The anniversary celebration will continue until Oct. 8, 2008.

St. Thomas More opens doors

St. Thomas More Academy will hold a fall open house for families interested in registering their children for the 2008-2009 school year.

The open house will be held from 7-9 p.m., Nov. 8.

Families interested in the school will be offered a tour of the new facility, as well as the opportunity to review curriculums for pre-kindergarten through eighth grade, view sample work by current students and ask questions about the school. Refreshments will also be provided.
