Youth sports: U-9 soccer team remains unbeaten
The Maryland City Mustangs U-9 girls' soccer team remained unbeaten this fall with a 3-0 win against the Arden Attackers last weekend. Allie Ritter scored twice and Sasha Baghdadi added a goal as the Mustangs improved to 7-0. Veronica Griswold, Claira Schiffrik, Grace Kigo and Sallay Fofana contributed to the attack, while Crystal Krug, Cecilia Ramirez, Nina Sadoski, Carley Wilson and Nyah Doe led the defense in front of goalkeeper Madelyn Ault, who made five saves.
U-11 girls tie Severn
The Maryland City Mustangs U-11 girls' soccer team played the Severn Athletic Club to a 1-1 tie on Saturday. Maryland City trailed 1-0 at halftime, but Ellie Schiffrik scored on a crossing pass from Anissa Mose to tie the game midway through the second half. Skylar Taylor, Kori Whiteside, Alexa Adler and Catherine Ault contributed to the attack, and Michaela Tuohey, Brandi Krug, Nisha Modali, Elyssa Bellofatto and Victoria Comings provided strong defensive play. Taylor and Lauren Ritter shared the goalkeeping duties.
U-10 boys rout Mayo
The Maryland City Mustangs U-10 boys' soccer team rolled to a 7-1 win against the Mayo Mustangs on Saturday. Chad Bobrick and Shaun Joyner each scored two goals, while Chase Adler, Tejas Khanna and Graham Bussink each added one. Adler and Corey Austin split time in goal.
U-12 girls win
The Maryland City Mustangs U-12 girls' soccer team earned a 2-0 win against the Fury last week. Jordan Brown and Alexandra Jones each had goals, and Sarah McMahon and Alexis Rustin led the offense. Andrea Sturgis and Paige Smith led the defense.
U-10 girls win twice
The Maryland City Mustangs U-10 girls' soccer team rolled to a 6-0 win against the Dolphins and earned a 2-1 win against the Steelies in an Arundel Cup game last weekend. Rebecca McMahon scored four times against the Dolpins and Rayne Aumia-Ramsawak and Sophia Watters each added one goal. McMahon and Brittany Johnson each had a goal against the Steelies, and Katherine Ernest, Georgia Reitzel and Patricia Wilson also contributed in the win.
U-9 team loses
The Maryland City Mustangs U-9 boys' soccer team dropped a 3-2 decision to the Severn Athletic Club Tigers last week. Abdul-Halim Goins and Andy Portillo scored for the Mustangs with assists by Jordan Ventura. Ian Huckabey and Eric Wilson also contributed on offense. Joseph Pacheco and Nicholas Ross shared time in goal, with defensive support from Bobby Whiteside and Cristian Polio. Eric Orellana, Alex Wu and Tyler Ferrer also contributed for Maryland City.
Mustangs beat Barracudas
The Maryland City Mustangs U-14 girls' soccer team got two goals and an assist from Jackie Orellana in a 4-2 win against the Crofton Barracudas on Saturday. Jackie Tessier had an assist and Briana Malcolm and Allie McMahon also contributed to the attack. Megan Reyda and Kelianne Venit shared time in goal, and Lindsey Rock, Nika Peden and Samantha Higgins also contributed in the win.
Mini Kicks in action
Samantha Ferrer, Joseph Henderson and Zavier Howard scored and Elias Jones contributed for the Lightning Bugs in a Maryland City Mini Kicks soccer game against the Blue Kickers on Saturday. Ana Nunez and Jonathan Castillo led the defense and Brandon Sindjui and Joel Herrera scored for the Blue Kickers. No scores are kept in the league.
In other league games, Maylyn Pacheco and Julianna Ramirez made saves in goal and Michael Venit and Aiken Lamar led the offense for the Blue Kickers, while Myles Bright and William Kendrick scored goals for the Orange Fire and Damauni Lucas and Reggie Sterling led the defense.
Christian Hinnant, and Eddie Sargent scored goals and Henry Wright and Aedan Gehl led the defense for the Green Frogs, while Samantha Ferrer and Elias Jones scored goals, Chailyn Martin had an assist and Araceliou Blanco played in goal for the Lightning Bugs.
Ava Hehir-Keys and David Okonkwo led the defense and Kayla Sterling and Khierra Kelley led the offense for the Orange Fire. Kaila Winn and Austin Greenan led the offense and Olivia Clark-Henriquez and Alexandra Thompson each made saves in goal for the Green Frogs.
Zoey Eppard-Wilcots had a save and Charles Amoafo and Tyrell Rodriquez had goals for the Sharks. Eddie Aguilar and Kylie Ritter led the offense and David Sucang led the defense for the Red Fireballs.
Devin Ross and Daniella Kraft led the defense for the Crocs. Victoria Perrow scored a goal and Ian Fabregas and Cameron Salisbury led the defense for the Red Fireballs.
Brianna Russell and Angela Aguilar led the offense and goalie Alexandra Millen made several saves for the Monsters. Jaidyn Alford, Walter DeWitt and Gabriel Villatoro scored goals for the Frogs.
Goalie Emily Stewart made two saves, Joshua Watters led the offense and Anthony Panizari led the defense for the Purple Cheetahs. Kyle Gaskins and Tyrell Rodriguez scored goals and Charles Amoafo led the defense for the Sharks.
Isaiah Cope, Reese McMillian and Moksha Kande scored goals and Kyle Ernest led the defense for the Purple Cheetahs. Michael Cintron played in goal and Jaden Yanovitz led the defense for the Crocs.
The Blazers had goals from Erick Villatoro, James Panizari and an assist by Samuel Dina and were led on defense by Noah Tate and Malick Sanyang. Dina, Villatoro, Vincent Williams and Rahsaan Foster scored for the Blazers and Kennedy Jazmine led the defense against the Tornadoes. Logan Pulatan and Anthony Kazzi led the Tornadoes' defense.
Wildcats lose
The Gambrills Odenton Wildcats 80-pound football team lost 40-0 to Cape St. Claire last weekend. Playing without any substitutes, the Wildcats combined for 14 tackles, a sack and 35 rushing yards.
Anklebiters get two wins
The Laurel Wildcats American Anklebiters football team won two games last weekending, beating the Patuxent Rhinos, 12-7, on Saturday and the Bowie Bulldogs, 7-6, on Sunday. Laurel improved to 5-2 with the wins. Laurel trailed Patuxent, 7-0, at halftime, but got a solid second half from its defense, led by Isaac Gunther. James Bethune and Donye Moore ach had interceptions. Devan Hebron Jr. helped lead the offense, and Nick Eggleston had a 55-yard touchdown run. Gunther scored the game-winning touchdown against Bowie on a 3-yard run. Ryan Robinson led a strong performance by the offensive line. Ernest Akers, Bryce Hamilton, Alexis Green and Tyler Whitlock helped lead the way on defense.
Cubs American win twice
The Laurel Boys and Girls Club Cubs American football team earned two victories last weekend, beating the Patuxent Rhinos, 18-0, on Saturday and the Bowie Bulldogs, 20-18, on Sunday. Against Patuxent, Deion Cook ran for 210 yards and three touchdowns. Craig Benjamin, Ameer Blair, Steven Sookdeo, Rodney Faulk, Zane Carey and Omar Ramey also contributed on offense. Curtis Walker, Artadius Matthews, Kyle Smith, Latre Kornegay, Christian Ware, Jared Rogers, Isaiah Oshinnaiye and Dorian Hurd led a defense that allowed Patuxent just 50 yards. Cook ran for two more touchdowns against Bowie and also tossed a 50-yard touchdown pass to Oshinnaiye
Patriot team loses pair
The Laurel Boys and Girls Club Cubs Patriot football team lost to the Bowie Bulldogs, 21-0, and to the Ridge Road Titans, 6-0, last weekend. Edward Dorsey led the Laurel offense. Elijah Lindsey, Isaiah Lindsey, Julius Duvall, Stallie Edmonds, Tavon Ousley, Myles Foster, Khalil Rollins, Dorsey and Jorden Thomas recorded tackles on defense, and Thomas had an interception against the Titans.
