Skate park needed in Bethesda to contain rowdy skateboarders
School is back in session, and while it is nice to see all the kids gathering at local businesses in Bethesda, it would be nicer if they didn't take the skateboarding to the extremes that they are now pursuing.
I have encountered the skateboarders everywhere there is a huge amount of concrete such as the Bethesda Metro garage, Capital Crescent Trail, Woodmont Tunnel, and even the square near Barnes & Noble in the middle of Bethesda.
One afternoon, a big group decided they would gather on the sidewalk in front of Barnes & Noble. They blocked the entire sidewalk, acted very aggressively toward pedestrians and started fighting each other. It seemed very uncivil to me.
It looks like Bethesda could use a skateboard park. How about it? The rest of the county gets stuck with these facilities; let the rest of us take a lunch time stroll or run errands without being run over on the sidewalk.
