Gaithersburg's communications team wins awards
Gaithersburg Television Productions Manager Chris Clifford and Television Production Specialist Amy McGuire received awards for two cable television productions they created for the City of Gaithersburg.
The awards were from 2009 Government Programming Awards from the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors, a nonprofit that recognizes excellence in broadcast, cable, multimedia and electronic programming produced by local government agencies. The nonprofit received more than 810 entries submitted by local governments in 21 states and judged entries in 65 categories.
"Policing in Gaithersburg: Innovative, Involved and In Touch" won third place in the Profile of a City category, said city spokeswoman Britta Monaco.
Earlier this year, the show, which beat 16 entries in the competition, received an APEX Award for Excellence in the category of Special Purpose Electronic & Video Publications.
The cable program focuses on public safety and the Gaithersburg Police Department's "innovative approach to community policing."
Another Clifford-McGuire special called "Geocaching 101" beat 24 entries and received a third place award in the Public Education category, Monaco said. The piece focuses on Gaithersburg's participation in a statewide initiative to develop a geocache trail in Maryland.
