The medical care provider hoped to vaccinate 500 people at the event, according to Adventist officials, the first community drive-through clinic in the county, said incident commander Cindy Edwards, a county nurse manager. The clinic, held from 7:30-10:30 a.m., was also a flu pandemic disaster preparedness drill for the county, she said.
Around 8:30 a.m., Adventist spokeswoman Marisa Lavine said that traffic hadn't been as heavy as was hoped. Cars were directed through the parking lot and made a brief stop to fill out paperwork before driving through two temporary awnings. There the drivers — or passengers — rolled up their sleeves for a vaccination.
Kim Reed, 43, of Germantown said she found out about the clinic while watching the morning news.
"I thought it would be a good idea to get one," laughed Reed, who was on her way to work.
Adventist will hold another drive-through clinic at Silver Spring's Orchard Center mall at Cherry Hill Road and Broadbirch Drive on Wednesday from 7:30-10:30 p.m. Vaccines are $27 per shot. For more information, visit www.takeyourflushot.com.
