Debby and Rick Hoffman of Bowie announce the engagement of their son, Matthew Lees Hoffman, to Joy Elizabeth Fraser, daughter of Valerie and Bob Fraser of Laurel.

The prospective bride is a 2009 graduate of Florida State University and is pursuing a master's degree at the University of Maryland, College Park. The prospective groom is a 2008 graduate of the United States Naval Academy and is serving as a naval submarine officer in Groton, Conn.

A May 2010 wedding is being planned.
