The city has waited years for a new middle school. Further delay is inexcusable if full funding is available. The existing historic building must also be renovated and appropriately utilized.

I know the neighborhoods of Greenbelt well enough to represent all Greenbelters. I am running because I want to keep Greenbelt a great place to live, work and visit.
What do you propose to make residents of Greenbelt safer from crime?
Better communication technology, call boxes and cameras are planned. Increased police visibility is needed. Community policing and other approaches to build trust between public safety officials and residents are important.
How important is it to get Greenbelt Middle School constructed in a timely manner?
Our children deserve facilities that support learning. A new middle school is long overdue. I will struggle with our county and state representatives to keep project funding on track. Increased police visibility is needed.

What issues would you advance as a council member?
As a strong public safety advocate, I would work hard to implement a gang task force in the city. We need to be better educated, prepared and pro-active in this area.

For those eligible to vote, but not registered, an intensive outreach is needed utilizing the schools, sites of worship, recreation centers and other places where people gather.

Absolutely! I'll eagerly serve all residents without regard to race or ethnicity, just as I do daily, working in our public schools.
What do you propose to make residents of Greenbelt safer from crime?
I'm a longtime advocate for more public safety resources including surveillance cameras, emergency call boxes, and the implementation of a gang task force. It is also essential that our police department be provided with well-maintained equipment.

I work at Greenbelt Middle School; I know the importance firsthand. We must have a quality facility where teachers can help students learn. Our children deserve a clean, functional and safe environment.

I have always been the anti-crime council member. I have initiated important changes over the years. Right now, my priority is installing surveillance cameras in additional locations, especially Empirian Village.

The council voted to expand council from five to seven. It adopted measures to allow early voting and voting by mail. It expanded its outreach efforts through a city newsletter.

I do represent all residents regardless of race and always have. I have not forgotten that before election to council I chaired the Community Relations Advisory Board.
What do you propose to make residents of Greenbelt safer from crime?
There is a problem with violent robberies, especially at Empirian Village. Surveillance cameras are one answer. Rebuilding Empirian Village is the larger solution.
How important is it to get Greenbelt Middle School constructed in a timely manner?
The county has already failed to get it constructed in a timely manner. We have been waiting for years. We desperately need the new school, followed by better education results.

Strong independent leadership that insists on fair, open, honest government that is responsive to and inclusive of all the citizens of Greenbelt.
What measures do you support to get more residents involved in city politics?
For the past 20 years I have been working very hard to encourage participation in our City Government. I campaign in every part of the city. I not only deliver a brochure to every registered voter, but to many unregistered citizens as well, in the hope of sparking an interest and participation in the issues effecting our city.
Do you feel you're able to represent all Greenbelt residents?
Yes, for the past 18 years I have represented all of the citizens of Greenbelt. The qualities that are inherent to our planned community are not exclusively beneficial to any race, creed, religion or sex. I believe they benefit everyone who chooses to live, work, or recreate in Greenbelt.
What do you propose to make residents of Greenbelt safer from crime?
Public safety is my No. 1 priority. For the past 20 years I have worked to get more police officers on the street in every part of our city. I have also fought for better social services and more recreation and educational opportunities, especially in Greenbelt West where I know they are lacking.

What issues would you advance as a council member?
The issue I would advance that would not be accomplished if I were not elected is Sunday bus service. It is reported by the U.S. Census Bureau that 1092 households are without vehicles in Greenbelt. Sunday bus service will allow more options for bus riders to attend worship services, visit doctors and hospitals, and complete other vital transportation needs.
What measures do you support to get more residents involved in city politics?
There are just as many registered voters in Empirian Village than there is across the city. The only difference is that these residents have been voting for candidates at the state and federal level, but not the local level. Voter education and outreach is the key to greater participation.
Do you feel you're able to represent all Greenbelt residents?
Yes. I feel like I can represent all residents of Greenbelt regardless of race because I have a degree in political science from Howard University, worked for Maryland State Senator Paul Pinsky and previously served as a legislative intern in the Executive Office of the President during the Clinton administration.
What do you propose to make residents of Greenbelt safer from crime?
Greenbelt West is a highly valued part of our community. To further enhance the City of Greenbelt, I would offer a choice of housing in Greenbelt West to include home ownership, less density, and plenty of green space for residents to enjoy.
How important is it to get Greenbelt Middle School constructed in a timely manner?
It is very important for me to get Greenbelt Middle School constructed in a timely manner. I believe that every Greenbelt resident would like to know that every child regardless of where they live are receiving a quality education in a first rate public facility. The timely completion of Greenbelt Middle School would secure this desire for the Greenbelt community.
