Suitland man killed in early morning District shooting
Police seeking suspects in homicide of veteran public works department employee
Police responding to reports of a shooting at a DPW lot around 6:15 a.m. found Larry Hutchins, 51, whose address in Suitland is unknown, suffering from fatal gunshot wounds, according to officer Tisha Gant, a Metropolitan police spokeswoman. The DPW lot is located on the 1200 block of W Street in Northeast Washington.
Hutchins had been employed by DPW for more than 20 years, according to Gant. Another unidentified DPW employee was shot but survived, Gant said.
Police are still seeking suspects and a motive, according to Gant.
DPW spokeswoman Nancy Lyons did not have any additional information about Hutchins or the circumstances of the shooting, but said the lot where the shooting took place is where trash collection crews begin their day.
Lyons said that any employees on the lot at the time were likely on-duty.
A phone number for Hutchins' family was unavailable.
