President Obama to visit Bowie State Thursday for political rally
Because of lack of public parking, visitors should use public transportation to event
There is no parking available on the university's campus and visitors are advised to take public transportation to the rally, according to Bowie State University officials. The MARC Penn line and MetroBus lines B21, B22 and B27 go directly to the university.
The only off-site event parking is available at the Bowie Race Track at 8300 Race Track Road in Bowie, beginning at 10 a.m. Thursday. Shuttle buses begin at 10:30 a.m.
The gates open at 12:30 p.m. and the program begins around 1:50 p.m.
Bowie Deputy Police Chief John Nesky suggested residents avoid Race Track Road between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Thursday, but doesn't anticipate total gridlock.
"It's one of those things it's tough to call what type of flow we're going to get," Nesky said. "We're not anticipating any problems. If you have to come down Race Track [Road], by all means come down Race Track [Road]. You might avoid any delays if you circumvent the area."
Banners, large bags, sticks, liquids and metal bottles are not permitted.
The public can sign up to attend Thursday's free rally at: http://my.barackobama.com/MarylandRSVP.
