Man found guilty in 2009 slaying of Upper Marlboro couple
Man, pregnant woman were found dead inside home in gated Oak Creek community
One of the men charged with the murder of a Ghanaian immigrant and his pregnant girlfriend in their home in a gated Upper Marlboro community has been found guilty of first-degree murder, prosecutors announced.
Delford Barnes, 29, of Springdale was found guilty Wednesday by a Prince George's County jury in the murder of both Seth Aidoo, 40, and Eunice Baah, 36. Barnes is the boyfriend of Aidoo's estranged wife, Sheila Aidoo.
Their bodies were found Jan. 14, 2009, in Aidoo's home at 14518 Turner Wootton Parkway in the Oak Creek community, an enclave of million-dollar homes.
An accomplice in the killings, Sheila Aidoo's brother, Samuel Culley, 53, of Springdale, pleaded guilty in April to the killings and provided police with information about how the murders were committed, said Ramon Korionoff, spokesman for the Prince George's County state's attorney's office.
Seth Aidoo and Baah were found dead in the basement of their home, police said. Baah, who was three-months pregnant with Aidoo's child, had been shot once in the head and Aidoo had been stabbed multiple times.
Both Barnes and Culley were living with Sheila Aidoo at her Springdale home at the time of the killings, Korionoff said.
Sheila and Seth Aidoo were married for 12 years but had separated more than 18 months before the killings. However, Sheila Aidoo was listed as the beneficiary to Seth Aidoo's $600,000 life insurance policy, Korionoff said.
No charges have been filed against Sheila Aidoo. A working number for her could not be located.
Korionoff would not comment on whether prosecutors are investigating any possible involvement by Sheila Aidoo in the killings.
"There are some peripheral issues concerning this case that merit re-examining," he said.
Barnes' attorney, Robert Bonsib of MarcusBonsib LLC in Greenbelt, said he plans to appeal the case after sentencing.
Barnes is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 20 in Prince George's County Circuit Court before Judge Melanie M. Shaw Geter. He faces two life sentences for the crimes.
Culley will be sentenced Tuesday, and as part of his plea agreement will be sentenced to two consecutive life terms in prison, Korionoff said.
