Gazette article should have been published sooner
I was disappointed to read the Sept. 15 article, "Parents' Coalition of Montgomery County members try their hands as candidates." I have no problems with the substance of the article, only the timing. I don't understand why this article would be published the day after the primary.
There was a lot of information in it that would have made voters more informed when casting their ballots. This is by no means a statement of support for the coalition. This is a statement of support for voters being as informed as possible on candidates leading up to an election. If you're going to have a reporter devote the time to write an article like this that had nothing keeping it from being posted just a week earlier, why wait and deny voters its information?
It's not like the Montgomery County Board of Education race was heavily covered by the news media. Yet the school board makes very important decisions for our county, especially this election cycle when it will choose a replacement for Superintendent Jerry Weast. With The Washington Post abandoning its journalistic responsibilities in covering local elections, The Gazette is one of the last widely released sources for local election coverage.
