Grant funds Habitat’s Mississippi tripThe Habitat for Humanity of Frederick has received a grant from the Fannie Mae Foundation for $10,000 and a United Parcel service grant of $2,000 to sponsor volunteers going on a building trip to Biloxi, Miss., in mid-October. The volunteers will take part in Operation Home Delivery, a massive rebuilding effort sponsored by Habitat for Humanity International to replace homes destroyed by hurricanes Rita and Katrina. Through an agreement among facility owner The Salvation Army, bunkhouse builder Habitat for Humanity Mississippi Gulf Coast, and facility manager Project Teamwork, volunteers lodge at the stadium and receive morning and evening meals there and a box lunch at the work site. Ruritans host engine show The Wolfsville Ruritan Club will host its 35th annual Catoctin Antique Gas Engine Show from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Oct. 6 and 7, at the Wolfsville Ruritan Community Park. The show will feature antique tractors, farm machinery, cars, trucks, a working saw mill, grist mill, flea markets, and craft booths. Country food will be available. New exhibitors and crafters are welcome. There is no charge to display machinery and vehicles. Admission is free. Red Cross presentsClara Barton awards At the Sept. 19 meeting of the Rotary Club of Frederick, Michelle Leveque, representing the board of directors of the Frederick Chapter of the American Red Cross, presented Clara Barton Society awards to two families in recognition of their serve to the Red Cross. The two families were Seymour and Lee Stern along with Karlys Kline and Tom Lynch. The Clara Barton society members commit to three years of giving at least $1,000 a year.
