Ellen T. Lowery
Ellen Thomas Lowery, 90, died at her home in Jefferson, Sept. 20, 2008.
Born on Aug. 31, 1918, in Adamstown, she was the daughter of the late Paul Sylvester and Alice E. Lee Thomas.
She graduated from Gaithersburg High School and attended Capital City Commercial College. She was employed by the U.S. Government for 27 years, the last 17 of which she worked at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda. She retired in 1979.
Mrs. Lowery was a member of the Jefferson United Methodist Church.
She was a member of NAFRE and AARP; Jefferson Food and Friends; a charter member of Goshen Mills Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution; and a member of the E. V. White Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy. She enjoyed reading, traveling and being with her family and friends.
She is survived by one daughter, Barbara Colvin and husband Gady of Bookings, Ore.; four sons, James A. Lowery and wife Cherra of Silver Spring, Thomas L. Lowery and wife Kathleen of Yellow Springs, Robert L. Lowery and wife, Roxanna of Mount Airy, and John C. Lowery and wife, Julie of Jefferson.
She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and four much loved nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by two sisters, Pauline Hilderbrand and Virginia Fraley; one brother, Sylvester Thomas; and one grandson, Brian Tivis.
Friends gathered Sept. 24 at Keeney & Basford P.A. Funeral Home, Frederick. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m., today. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Jefferson United Methodist Church, 3882 Jefferson Pike, Jefferson, MD 21755.
