County government
The county executive and the nine members of the County Council are elected every four years. The next election is in November 2010. The primary election is held in September, followed by the general election in November.
The Executive Office Building is at 101 Monroe St., Rockville.
The County Council meets on Tuesdays and also holds committee meetings during the week. Public hearings on legislation before the council are usually held midday Tuesday and on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. The Council Office Building is at 100 Maryland Ave., Rockville. Planning Board
National Capital Park and Planning Commission, acquires, develops and administers parks in the county.
The board also prepares and administers a general plan for the physical development of most of the county.
The five members meet each Thursday in Silver Spring to decide planning, zoning, subdivision and park matters.
Members serve four-year terms and are limited to two full terms. The chairman is appointed by the County Council. The current chairman is Royce Hanson.
