Man attempts armed robbery at Metro stationThe Metro Transit Police Department is investigating an attempted armed robbery this morning at the Shady Grove Metro station. At around 9:35 a.m., a man approached a woman in the tunnel area between the station’s busy bay and the station, demanded money, and showed her a handgun when she refused, said Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority information specialist Cathy Asato. He demanded money a second time, Asato said, but the woman refused again. At that point, other pedestrians entered the tunnel and the man ran away in the direction of the station. ‘‘The woman was not injured and nothing was stolen,” Asato said. Asato did not know if the man was able to board a train. Metro Transit Police were called to the scene, Asato said, but the Montgomery County Police Department was not. The man is described as black, 25 to 27 years old, 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing 165 to 170 pounds. Asato said he was wearing a black and gray camouflage T-shirt, blue jeans, black tennis shoes and a black skullcap. She said this is the first attempted armed robbery reported this year at Shady Grove Metro station.
