Stolen truck crashes into Suitland middle school
Classes mostly back to normal after Monday collision
The school day should be mostly back to normal Tuesday for students at Drew-Freeman Middle School, after a stolen truck crashed into the Suitland school early Monday morning.
Two music instruction rooms were damaged in the 6 a.m. crash, but no one was injured and the school day began on time. Officials say the incident will have no effect on school operations, except for several music classes that will continue in other rooms in the building.
The driver crashed the truck into the front of the school before students and staff arrived, according to Prince George's County police and school officials.
Sgt. Michelle Reedy, a police spokeswoman, said the driver has not been identified and fled the truck after the crash. He was still at-large Monday afternoon. Police did not have additional information Monday about the type of vehicle involved or where and when it was stolen.
The two music classrooms on the first floor of the school sustained damage to the walls and windows, said Tanzi West, a school system spokeswoman. Fire department officials found that the building suffered no other structural damage.
School officials are still estimating the cost of the damage.
