Quick Hits: Weekend Picks for Frederick County
Frederick theaters spell out a Dirty Rotten' weekend of laughs
The curtain rises on two new shows in Frederick this weekend.
Way Off Broadway sets out for the long con with its rendition of "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels." Starring theater prez Bill Kiska and actor Jordan Stocksdale in roles originated by Michael Caine and Steve Martin in Frank Oz's 1988 film, the show transforms the Way Off Broadway stage into the French Riviera for a madcap comedy of high class crime. Show runs through Nov. 7.
The Maryland Ensemble Theatresteps up to the mic for "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee," the Tony award-winning play of musical and improvisational hilarity that finds six eccentric students in the throes of a competition devised and compiled by a team of adults who can't quite keep it together themselves. Show runs through Oct. 9.
Prior to heading out to the theater tonight, music lovers might take their lunch break at the C. Burr Artz Library where The Tommy Lepson Band will perform as part of the returning Music on the Terrace Series. Held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. every Friday in September, the library program welcomes the public to enjoy a mid-day refreshment of musical entertainment, free of charge.
And at the movies, Halloween comes slightly early this weekend with the release of "Resident Evil: Afterlife". Zombies in 3D. Or did you guess that already?
