Lancers recover in time to beat Boonsboro
Linganore earns first win of the season over Warriors, 4-1
After a rough opening tournament, the Linganore High girls soccer team wasted no time setting things right in its season opener, beating visiting Boonsboro 4-1 on Tuesday.
The Lancers went up 1-0 in the first two minutes of play.
Junior Shannon Carr and senior Nicole Olsen each had a goal and an assist, while Stephanie Giangiuli and Katie Montgomery also scored goals. Hannah Triebel picked up an assist.
On defense, Edie Riggs and Alex Stubenrauch split time in front of the goal, with both picking up five saves apiece.
Linganore had a rough start in the Tuscarora Tournament of Champions, losing 3-0 to C.M Wright. In their second game, they tied up Reservoir of Howard County, 1-1 with a goal from Maddy Grant.
The Lancers (1-0) play next on Saturday at St. Maria Goretti.
Century volleyball 3, Urbana 0
The Hawks battled but couldn't keep pace with Century, falling 18-25, 25-27,18-25.
Megan Kent led Urbana (0-1) with eight kills and an ace, while Maddy Hynes added six kills and an assist.
On the setter stats, Kayla Wilkinson had nine assists and an ace, while Haley Feinberg had six assists, an ace and a dig.
The Hawks next match is today at Liberty, starting at 6:15 p.m.
SJCP volleyball skids, soccer deadlocked
The SJCP volleyball team suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Oldfields on Tuesday. Game scores were 16-25, 18-25 and 19-25.
Mason Kersey tallied seven service aces and three digs in a losing cause.
The St. John's-Catholic Prep boys soccer team tied Beth TFiloh 1-1 on Monday, as Jonathan Shakespere scored for the Vikings.
