Largo crash kills man, injures four
Wet road, speed likely caused crash, police say
The driver of a sport utility vehicle was killed and four passengers were injured in a crash early Wednesday morning on White House Road in Largo, police said.
Rondell Matthews, 23, of Upper Marlboro was killed when the 1992 Ford Explorer he was driving veered off the road into trees and flipped twice shortly before 2 a.m., said Cpl. Clinton Copeland, a spokesman for the Prince George's County Police Department.
The passengers — an 18-year-old Greenbelt woman, a 19-year-old woman from Arlington, Va., and two Upper Marlboro men, ages 21 and 28 — were taken to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, Copeland said. Their current status is unknown, and police have not released their names.
Copeland said speed and rain are believed to be factors in the crash.
