Good Counsel's Yore: It's a joy to be back'
Our Lady of Good Counsel Principal John Yore said he's thrilled to be working in the Olney community again.
"It's a joy to be back," he said. "The Olney community is wonderful, and it's been nice to run into old friends and meet new people."
Yore took over as principal of the Catholic high school on July 1 after serving as principal of Cape Henlopen High School in Delaware for four years. Before that, he served as assistant principal, acting principal and then principal of Sherwood High School from 2003 to 2006.
Yore said he has enjoyed the start to the school year, as well as the new experiences.
Last weekend he traveled with the football team to Cincinnati as the team played St. Xavier High School in a game that was televised on ESPN.
Last week he attended the first school-wide Mass.
"It is very exciting to be in a place where faith is embraced," he said. "Participating in Mass with the entire student body was very touching."
Yore said he is fortunate to work with a dedicated administrative team, a committed staff and respectful students.
"I am truly blessed," he said. "I hope I can contribute in a positive way to what is already an outstanding school with a rich tradition."
Yore, 49, said his wife Susan and children are happy, as well. Gabrielle, 14, is a freshman at Good Counsel, and John Patrick, 8, attends Brooke Grove Elementary.

Calling all artists
The Olney Farmers and Artists Market will sponsor its second Plein Air Olney event Saturday and Sunday.
Plein Air is an approach to painting developed in the mid-19th century in France. An artist stands at an easel and paints what he or she sees to capture the scene at that moment, and completes the work in a single sitting.
Artists of all ages and all abilities are invited to participate on Saturday to create their works at sites within a seven-mile radius of Olney. The community is encouraged to look for artists around town and to watch them work.
The following day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., all artworks created the day before will be on exhibit and available for purchase at the Farmers and Artists Market, located on the old Montgomery General Hospital grounds at Prince Phillip Drive and Olney-Sandy Spring Road.
Nothing will cost more than $200 and many pieces will be sold for less.
Information and registration forms are available at www.olneyfarmersmarket.org.
